It won’t impact your site negatively. It will only notify third-party ping services of new content. Worst case scenario, it won’t help with your ranking. Best case scenario, your content will be picked up faster by Google.
I never saw any results of pinging from WordPress. So I stopped. Many of the big sites as technorati doesn’t support this any more. And who uses blogrolls these days?
That is true. The only actual use of this feature is getting search engines to index your website faster. At some point, some of your published pages or articles might, fleetingly, appear in some obscure ping list, and Google or Bing will pick it up. I would say it helps, even if only 0.01%.
I’ve seen links popping up (and then disappearing) using this method in my Ahrefs reports.
I didn’t find how to use these ping URLs on the Internet. I mean how to write custom scripts
You need to put these links in your WordPress Settings -> Writing -> Update Services textarea.
